Definition

Optional bonus awarded for doing more than required—originally extra points in school, now broadly any added recognition.

Examples

"I bombed the midterm, but there’s an extra credit assignment due Friday that could save my grade."

"She stayed after to help clean up the event—extra credit for being the last one out the door."

"He added a slick live demo to the pitch, earning extra credit with the execs."
