Civilian clothes, especially worn instead of a uniform; also, a school non‑uniform day.

Examples

"After drill, the cadets changed into mufti before heading into town."

"We’ve got a mufti day on Friday to raise money for Children in Need."

"I didn’t recognise the head boy at first because he was in mufti rather than his blazer."
