Definition

An informal Australian/NZ term for a short work break—originally for a cigarette—now often for tea, coffee, or rest.

Examples

"We’ll stop for smoko at ten—grab a cuppa and a bikkie, then get back to it."

"During smoko the tradies sat by the ute, a couple having a quick ciggie while others just had a yarn."

"After a long morning on site, the foreman called smoko so everyone could rest their legs for a few minutes."
